Food Metaphors in the Movie "Like Water for Chocolate"

Culture portrays varieties in qualities, behaviors, and beliefs, just as contrasts in the manner in which individuals act. Component of culture is not hereditarily sent and all things considered, they must be passed down from one age the following through correspondence. Though an American views it as a helpful specialized instrument, a Chinese will utilize their language to hand off their sentiments and to build up connections. Talking about language here, I am referencing the metaphors that we generally use in our daily lives to express our emotions and beliefs.

Meaning- familiarity breeds contempt

In India, we use a lot of metaphors to deliver our expressions and emotions. Here are some examples:

 Translation: Doesn’t do any work, is an enemy of grains

Meaning - a colourful way of calling out "You good-for-nothing fellow!"

Translation: To earn the price not only of mangoes but also their pits

When you rake in huge profits with an arrangement or choice, benefitting on even the worthless peripherals.

Here are some metaphors that I found from the movie: 

  • "She felt a black hole in her chest" When Tita felt sad and lonely.

  • "This is the nectar of the gods!" When Pedro tasted the dish of Tita, he expressed his thoughts through this expression. 

  •  "Her cheeks turn red, redder than the apples beside her." This metaphor explains the shyness of Tita in that her cheeks are redder than the apples. 

  •   "She felt her head about to burst, like a kernel of popcorn."
