Ethnic Store Visit

Culture is the trait of the gathering of individuals characterized by everything like language, religion, way of life, etc. Various individuals in various social orders have distinctive cultures. Yet, they also have a few similitudes—how life changes in multiple things like garments, food varieties, religion, and numerous others. Montreal, a metropolitan city with different communities living together, is an excellent instance of multiculturism. And to discover this thing, I visited Supermarche Akhavan, a Mediterranean cuisine grocery store.

It offers a variety of Iranian, Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern products, making it the biggest Mediterranean & Middle-Eastern supermarket chain in Montreal. As I am from India, so I have to choose any other regional grocery store than Indian. Our teacher assigned this activity, and I found this a great move as it allows an individual to explore the dishes around the world. Supermarche Akhavan has two branches NDG and Pierrfonds. I went to the NDG branch as it is very near my home. The commute for me was around 2 minutes of walk. It is located at 6170 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, Quebec, H4B1L8.
This store is not only specializing in food only. It offers many varieties of kitchen equipment, barbeque equipment, samovar, pots and pans, teacups and other cleaning materials. The store is fully decorated with Islamic symbols and pictures of Arabic Languages over the wall. One more thing that depicts the store's region is the Arabic and Persian music being played in the store. I liked the store's ambience as it makes the shopping more enjoyable. A person cannot exit empty-handed from the store because of the freshness and quality of the food and other products. My task there was to find five products from different categories of food (grains, vegetables, products of animal origin, canned and or transformed products, condiments, seasonings, dry goods, etc.)

I chose Grains – Lupini Beans, Vegetable – Rapini, Products of animal origin – Marinated Kafta Kabab, Canned or transformed product – Baba Ghanoush, Condiments – Pomegranate Sauce with Olive, Seasonings – Esfand, Dry Goods – Dried white lime.

Rapini
Rapini, also known as broccoli rabe, is a green vegetable and is particularly associated with Mediterranean cuisine. Aside from its culinary uses, rapini offers a scope of medical advantages. Plentiful in vitamins A, C and K, it additionally packs a high centralization of calcium, iron and potassium. Together, these supplements assist with keeping up with good bones and boosting metabolism.

LUPINI BEANS
Lupini Beans are considered a powerhouse food because of their rich qualities of nutrients. They help in preventing heart and stomach diseases. They are rich in fibre and are usually eaten on a healthy diet.

Marinated Kafta Kabab
Kafta is exceptionally adaptable as far as what you decide to serve it with. Most people from the middle east love to serve it with some pita bread, hummus, baba ganoush, and salad. Presented with rice and barbecued veggies.

BABA GHANOUSH
Like a large part of the food from the Mediterranean, baba ghanoush makes a solid expansion to your eating. The basic, yet flavorful, vegan appetizing plunge comprises a pureed blend of cooked eggplant, tahini, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice. This dish is a decent wellspring of fibre and solid fat, yet a few brands might be high in sodium.

Pomegranate Sauce with Olive
This combination is unfamiliar to me entirely. I first thought how its taste would be, but then when I tried, it was not bad. The presence of antioxidants helps our body from fatal diseases and boosts our immune system.
